RAISA TAKES OVER: first elected woman city mayor tiptoes on how the new shoe fits

Raisa Treñas took her oath of office before Punong Barangay Irene Ong as the new Iloilo city mayor in “simple ceremonies” at city hall Friday morning, June 27, 2025 with city government officials and employees in attendance.

The new local chief executive succeeds Mayor Jerry Treñas, her father, at noontime of Monday, June 30.

Besides the generic statement of “bringing government closer to the people,” she shared a possible addition to the number of some 30 executive assistants which the older Treñas had maintained over the last six years.

Mayor Raisa Treñas is a BS in Commerce graduate, majoring in Business and Economics at Assumption College. She consequently pursued graduate studies and earned her Master’s degree in Entrepreneurship at the Ateneo de Manila University Graduate School of Business.

City hall insiders say, credentials-wise the new mayor is tailored fit to the local government thrust towards joint ventures and public private partnerships (PPPs).

Likewise the Local government code explicitly provides that local government units have proprietary functions as well as governmental powers.
