Sea travellers bound for Guimaras crowded the Parola terminal in Iloilo City, January 1, 2021.

The Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) denied last minute pleas by operators and Guimaras officials for extension of permits to wooden hulled boats.

Some 28 of these boats plied the Buenavista – Iloilo City route and 22 at the Jordan – Iloilo City route.

In place are modernized boats at the Parola – Buenavista side: the M/B D’Invaders and M/B Ron Jayredine with 80 and 60 passengers capacity, respectively. Both are operated by the Buenavista Motorbanca Owners and Sailors Association (BAMOSA).

The 2 others are M/B RJO Transporter 2, and M/V Navis I with passenger capacities of 160 and 250, respectively and operated by the Buenavista Development Cooperative.

Also at the Parola – Buenavista route is the steel hulled boat of Atlantis Yohan Corp.

At the Jordan side are 3 modernized boats, two by the Jordan Motorbanca Cooperative (JMBC) and 1 by the Atlantis Yohan Corp.
