FUNDING SOUGHT FOR CAPIZ FLOODWAY PROJECT: request slated for 2024 budget, Gov. Fredenil Castro announced.
The Capiz governor said that House Speaker Martin Romualdez has directed the appropriations committee Chair Elizaldy Co to provide funds for the floodway project in 2024.
Castro also bared that he conveyed the Capiceños request for a floodway project to some cabinet officials of Pres. Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. who were in Roxas City last Nov. 2 to assess the damage wrought by Storm Paeng.
In 2022, Capiz was devastated by two massive floods due to tropical depression ‘Agaton’ in April and storm ‘Paeng’ in October.
The floodway is seen as a short term remedy to the flooding problem in Capiz and Roxas City while the proposed Panay River Basin Integrated Development Project could be the long term solution to the recurring floods, Castro noted. (with PIA)*
