SolGen to comment on Constitutionality of Law on BARANGAY, SK ELECTIONS

MANILA 29 AUGUST 2025 – Malacañang on Friday said the Office of Solicitor General (OSG) will file a comment on the petition challenging the constitutionality of Republic Act (RA) 12232, which moves the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) from Dec. 1, 2025 to the first Monday of November 2026.

“We have already referred it to OSG as counsel of the Republic,” Palace press officer Claire Castro said in a text message to reporters.

The Supreme Court (SC) has consolidated the three petitions against the BSKE postponement. SC spokesperson Camille Ting said no temporary restraining order has been issued “in the meantime.”

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Aug. 13 signed RA 12232, moving the BSKE from December 2025 to November 2026 and fixing the term of office of village and youth officials at four years. | with Ruth Abbey Rita – Carlos |
