ANTIQUE GOVERNOR CALLS OUT DPWH FOR SERIOUS NEGLECT OF TOTALLY DESTROYED PALIWAN BRIDGE

Gov. Rhodora Cadiao expressed a “public clamor to immediately replace the totally destroyed Paliwan bridge” in a letter dated May 9, 2023, a copy of which was obtained by HilwayNews on Tuesday, May 16 and addressed to Sec. Manuel Bonoan of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Paliwan bridge is situated at the national highway between Lauaan and Bugasong towns connecting the northern stretch of the province to the southern towns, including the provincial capital San Jose de Buenavista.

Cadiao also called for immediate action to the “unreasonably slow pace of repair and rehabilitation” of the Antique national highway in Hamtic going to the Iloilo boundary in San Joaquin.

The condition on this road “has turned from bad to worse,” the Antique governor told Bonoan, “thereby making travel over deplorable stretches of the highway not only inconveniently unbearable but also highly unsafe.”

Gov. Cadiao first wrote to Sec. Bonoan on both concerns last January 30, 2023 but the Antique governor’s office has yet to receive a reply.
