ILOILO CITY — the energization over the weekend of the 10/12 megavolt-amperes (MVA) Arevalo mobile substation (AMS) were meant to enhance power quality for some 12,000 consumers in the city district, which sits at the far end of the utility’s distribution network.
“This is to address low voltage issues and deloading of Molo and Megaworld substations, giving them breathing room to accommodate additional demand,” said Engr. Armil Logarta, AVP for project development and management of MORE Power.
The AMS is only temporary because the power firm will establish a bigger substation with a 30/36 MVA capacity to cater to the potential increased demand due to the opening of Sunset Boulevard.
MORE Power chief operating officer (COO) , Engr. Joe-Mel Zaporteza, said the substation is equipped with “state-of-the-art” Supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system, fully integrated with the diversion control system.
This is the capability of a distribution utility to handle the equipment from its system control, so there is faster response, according to Zaporteza.
“We spent close to P2.5 billion, and for the next five years we are committing another P2 billion for Iloilo City alone to further our capacity,” Zaporteza said.
