LOWER POWER RATES DUE TO REDUCED GENERATION, TRANSMISSION COSTS

ILOILO CITY, MAY 25, 2025 — Residential consumers of electric power in Iloilo City as well as those in Negros Occidental will have lower bills in May, reflecting the reduced charges from transmission firm NGCP and from various generation companies (GenCos) including those sourced from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM).

“Generation is really volatile that it changes from month-to-month, in fact, day-to-day. That is the biggest influence when it comes to our power rate,” Primelectric Holdings Inc. President /CEO Roel Castro said.

MORE Power residential bills will be lower by Eighty nine centavos per kilowatt hour (P0.89/kWh), now at P11.13/kWh and down from P12.03/kWh in the previous billing cycle of April 18 to May 17.

In central Negros Occidental, the Negros Electric and Power Corp. (Negros Power) announced a rate of P11.69 per kWh, lower by P0.66 per kWh from P12.35 per kWh in the previous month.

Negros Power distributes electricity to consumers in the cities of Bacolod, Bago, Talisay and Silay as well as the municipalities of Murcia and Don Salvador Benedicto.

Both Negros Power and MORE Power are companies under the Primelectric Holdings Inc. of business tycoon Enrique Razon.

Meanwhile, the Northern Negros Electric Cooperative (Noneco) this week reported a lower rate of P1.78/kWh this month, now at P13.28/kWh from P15.07/kWh in April. Noneco serves consumers from E.B. Magalona town to San Carlos City in northern Negros Occidental.

The Negros Occidental Electric Cooperative (Noceco) reported a lower rate of P3.58/kWh in May, now at P12.02/kWh from P15.61/kWh in April. Noceco covers southern Negros, from Pulupandan to Hinoba-an. (with Perla Lena, Nanette Guadalquiver)
