MANILA, 6 AUGUST 2025 – the bill postponing the December 2025 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) to November next year is set to lapse into law on August 14, 2025, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Wednesday, August 6.
“We have information that it seems there will be no formal ceremony. The bill will just lapse into law by Aug. 14 so the postponement of BSKE will automatically become law,” Comelec chairman George Garcia said in an interview as he noted that the measure is still awaiting the signature of President Marcos Jr.
Meanwhile, Garcia reiterated that they would continue to prepare for the Dec. 1 BSKE as he is almost certain that the law could be questioned before the Supreme Court. (with Ferdinand Patinio) xxx
