Peñol won with 235 votes over councilor Liecel Mondejar-Seville of New Lucena town with 176 votes as the Philippine Councilors League (PCL) Iloilo held elections for chapter officers in Iloilo City today, September 12.
As PCL chapter president Peñol becomes ex-officio board member of Iloilo representing the town councilors in the province as well as those from the component city of Passi.
Results of the voting reflected the support as announced earlier by the “political brokers” in Iloilo. Peñol was endorsed by governor Arthur Defensor Jr., and backed by 3rd district Rep. Lorenz Defensor, 4th district Rep. Ferj Biron, and 2nd district (proxy) Rep. Michael Gorriceta.
Mondejar-Seville on the other hand, got votes mainly from councilors of the 1st and 5th district towns.
